Two Mounties wounded in standoff in Alberta

EDMONTON – Two RCMP officers have been shot and wounded during a standoff near a community southwest of Edmonton.

The Mounties say the officers were part of an emergency response team that surrounded a home Saturday evening near Breton following a report that a 35-year-old man had been wounded from a gunshot.

RCMP say that early Sunday morning, there was an exchange of gunfire between officers and someone inside the home.

They say that’s when the two officers were shot, and they say the officers were taken by helicopter to a hospital in Edmonton with non-life-threatening injuries.

Several hours later, police say a man and a woman from inside the home were taken into custody.

Police say both had non-life-threatening injuries, and are now in hospital.
