The Devils slide past the Sens in a shootout

NEW JERSEY – It was a wild one in Newark, as the Sens blew a 3-0 lead and lost to the Devils 5-4 in a shootout. It was the Senators 2nd straight loss.
Ottawa almost lost this game in regulation time, but Jesse Winchester scored with 3.5 seconds left on the clock to force OT and get a point for the Sens.
The other Senator goal scorers were Daniel Alfredsson (7), Nick Foligno (10), and Milan Michalek with his league leading 18th goal of the season.
Sergei Gonchar left the game in the 2nd period with an upper body injury. He did not return.
Defenseman Matt Carkner was also called up from Binghamton, but will play until at least Saturday night when the Sens host Vancouver.
The Sens are now just one point up on New Jersey in the Eastern Conference standings, but the Devils have two games in hand.
Also of note, Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin will not be disciplined for his spear on Chris Neil Wendesday night.
