Canes over Sens 2-1 in overtime

RALEIGH – Tuomo Ruutu scored at 1:36 of overtime as the Carolina Hurricanes downed the Ottawa Senators 2-1, Friday.

The Hurricanes got off to a strong start. Riley Nash scored on a tip in to make it 1-0.

Carolina outshot the Sens 19-6 in the first period, but Ottawa was still able to draw even near end of the period. Filip Kuba scored off a wrist shot from the point, assisted by Kyle Turris and Nick Foligno.

There were no goals in both the 2nd and 3rd periods. Goalie Craig Anderson was outstanding in net, keeping the Sens in the game.

The Sens are back in action on December 27th when they play the Montreal Canadiens at Scotiabank Place.

Milan Michalek is expected to make his return in that game. He passed his baseline testing yesterday, and is symptom-free.
