Brrrr….it’s FREEZING outside!

OTTAWA -Baby, it’s cold outside and while we knew winter was coming,  the shock of the first burst of Arctic air is really getting to people in the capital.

“Nasty, nasty, nasty,” said Tony who was making his way quickly from his car to the closest door. “I love my Christmas weather and so forth but this is it for me.”

And he’s not alone. People were complaining about the bone-chilling cold, saying they don’t have the gear to deal with this kind of deep chill.

“I’m frozen already and I’ve already pulled out my two layers, I don’t know what I’m going to do come later in the season,” said Meredith.

The forecast Thursday morning showed the cold continuing through the day and into the evening with some relief in sight as clouds roll in Friday, but people were not looking forward to the several hours of frigid conditions, including wind chills that make it feel like minus 30C.

“This is a bit chilly but yesterday, it isn’t as bad today, yesterday the wind was just horrible, shovelling snow and the wind would whip the snow back into your face,” said Peter.

But as always there are a few people who enjoy this kind of frigid existence.

“I dress for the weather so to me it’s not really an issue, I like it,” said Joel.

“This is Canada, it’s supposed to be cold,” said Shan.

By New Year’s Day the forecast is showing temperatures hovering much more comfortably just above zero.
