Strict helmet rules in effect at Ottawa skating rinks

Strict helmet rules are now in effect at the city’s indoor skating rinks. The rule has been put in place to protect both inexperienced and young skaters. The helmet rule took effect New Years Day.
It means all skaters under ten must strap on a helmet before hitting the ice. The same rules apply to weak skaters.
According to a city report, ice skating is one of the top three sports that causes trips to hospital emergency rooms.
