Salvation Army workers set to strike Friday

60 workers at the Salvation Army’s Booth Centre on George Street are set to walk off the job Friday afternoon at 3.
According to a press release from their union, fair wages are the issue for shelter staff, who have been in a legal strike position since December 20.
Union members at the Salvation Army say they are underpaid compared to other shelters like the Ottawa Mission and Shepherds of Good Hope.
The union held a rally on Dec. 29 and sent a letter to the centre’s executive director Perry Rowe, but say they haven’t received a response.
The Booth Centre serves about 150 homeless men each night. The Salvation Army says it will continue to serve clients if the workers go on strike.
