OTTAWA – It almost seems automatic for the Ottawa Senators to come back and win a game in the third period. Down two goals to the Flyers going into the third period, the Sens scored four unanswered goals to beat the Flyers 6-4.
The Senators got off to a strong start. Kyle Turris made a nifty move to break into the Flyers’ zone, before setting up Daniel Alfredsson for the first goal, only 54 seconds into the game.
Ex-Senator Andrej Meszaros tied the game just over a minute later. Chris Neil scored on a wrist shot to reclaim the lead at 8:25 of the first period.
But Philadephia scored three unanswered goals to take a 4-2 lead going into the third period.
But the “cardiac kids” gave the fans at Scotiabank Place another brilliant third period performance. Colin Greening got the comeback going with a goal at 3:11 of the third period. Erik Karlsson tied the game with a snap snot just over three minutes later.
Filip Kuba scored the go-ahead goal from a point shot with just over a minute left in the game. Nick Foligno added an empty netter to make it 6-4.
Craig Anderson made 33 saves for Ottawa.
The Sens move into 5th place in the Eastern Conference with 50 points.
