With wind chill expected to remain in the -20s throughout the weekend, Ottawa Public Health has issued a frostbite alert.
The alert is issued whenever the forecast calls for a wind chill of -25 or colder.
Ottawa Public Health reminds you of the four “P’s” of frostbite:
- Pink. The affected areas will be reddish in colour. This is the first sign of frostbite.
- Pain. The affected areas will become painful.
- Patches. White, waxy patches will appear, which means your skin is dying.
- Pricklies. The affected area will eventually feel numb.
