If you have a flight scheduled with Air Canada, your seat is safe for now.
The country’s biggest airline and its 3, 000 pilots have agreed to continue negotiation talks past the midnight deadline. The airline has been in contract talks for more than a year, and will continue adding up members’ votes on authorizing a strike if contract talks collapse.
As of Tuesday, Air Canada is in legal position to strike, but the Air Canada Pilots Association says they have no plan to do so, according to spokesperson Peter Fitzpatrick who spoke to the Montreal Gazette.
Air Canada reached a tentative deal last Friday with its 8,600 machinists, baggage handlers, aircraft cleaners and a ratification vote is set for next week.
In the event of a strike, the government will most likely intervene to prevent any disruption to air travel.
