A Montreal-based ice dancing group went ahead with it’s “Artistic Flash Mob” on the Rideau Canal Skateway Tuesday night.
“Le Patin Libre” held a small skating party near the Pretoria Bridge. The group had the crowd cheering and the National Capital Commission jeering.
The group had been “busking,” which means accepting change from appreciative audience members for their talents; however NCC officials said soliciting is not permitted on the skateway.
The guerilla style urban skating group said they stopped accepting money as soon as they learned it was against NCC rules and are just doing it for fun now.
CTV reports the NCC has also accused the group of posing a safety risk to other skaters on the canal.
Meantime, 1310News took to the streets and most people said they should be allowed to display their talents.
One woman said the people who skate too fast and too wild are the ones who should be given the boot because they pose a safety hazard.
