Unionized daycare workers strike in Gatineau

Gatineau parents had to make alternate daycare arrangements, Wednesday.

Unionized daycare workers held their third of five one-day strikes in the hopes it would led to a new contract. Workers have been without one for two years.

Wages, vacation, pensions and scheduling are key issues at the bargaining table.

The Gatineau daycare workers’ spokesperson, Nagoua Zitouni, said “The parents are there all the time with us. They support us.”

Workers met at the Guertin Arena at 11 a.m. and marched up and down St. Joseph Boulevard to draw attention to the labour standoff.
