Kindness week kicks off in Ottawa

OTTAWA, On. — Have you taken the time to be nice to someone lately?

The fifth annual Kindness Week kicked off at City Hall Friday.

“It’s a simple message about being kind to each other, but it is a powerful message,” said Ottawa Centre MPP Yasir Naqvi. “It is a message that we should all embrace. It’s a message that we should all practice every single day, not just this week.”

Designer Sonya Kinkade is using the week to host the second annual Extreme Makeover: Kindness Edition and explained she will be remodeling the Foster Family Farm Homework Club.

“We’re going to actually totally u-haul the whole place, so new flooring and paint and all new storage units and seating areas and chairs and lighting and a new TV,” she said.

There are a number of other kindness events this week including a blood drive, food drive and a bloggers carnival.

Kindness Week volunteers will also host several special social media activities, including a ‘Kindness Tweet-Up’ and a ‘Bloggers Carnival.’
