OTTAWA – Ottawa City Council is considering raising water and sewer rates by 73 per cent over the next ten years.
Ottawa’s Environment Committee is voting on the plan, Tuesday. If adopted, the new method would start next year.
Now the chair of the committee wants to change the way water and sewer work is is carried out.
Maria McRae says residents should know what sewer and water repair and construction work will be done three years in advance.
McRae tells the Citizen, it may be easier to justify the 73 per cent increase if residents can see what work is to be done. She says it’s only fair that Ottawa residents are able to see rate increases coming.
The committee will also to vote on a 10-year plan that would see $2.1 billion worth of work between now and the early 2020’s.
