Students at Gisele-Lalonde Public High School in Orleans are mourning the loss of one of their own.
Grade 10 student Thomas Duffy was one of three people killed Wednesday in a horrific crash on Highway 7 at Silver Lake near Perth.
“Thomas was a veritable athlete,” said Marilyne Guevremont, with the French Public School Board of Eastern Ontario,”He excelled in ever sport. [He was] very well-liked by his peers, by students, by teachers. [He was] very respectful and polite and was involved in many sports.”
Thomas was a skier, with hopes of one day making it to the Olympics.
He and three others were heading for a ski meet in Barrie, when their mini van crossed the centre line and slammed head on into another van.
Thomas’ father John, 47, along with Karen Thompson, 39, of Mountain Grove were also killed in the crash.
A 53-year-old ski instructor and Thomas’ 10-year-old brother Eric remain in hospital.
