Alberta premier surprised, disappointed by McGuinty pullback on oilsands

TORONTO – Alberta Premier Alison Redford says she is surprised and a little disappointed by comments from her Ontario counterpart over the oilsands.
Redford was reacting to comments from Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty, who publicly rejected her calls to do more to advocate for the oilsands.
McGuinty said the booming industry means a higher Canadian dollar, which hurts Ontario’s manufacturing sector and exports.
Redford says that rising oilsands profits lift the entire Canadian economy and Ontario in particular.
A study by the Canadian Energy Research Institute says the oilsands will create $63 billion in economic spinoffs in Ontario and bring an extra 65,000 jobs over 25 years.
Redford says McGuinty’s comments won’t deter her from pursuing a national consensus to market _ not just oil _ but all of Canada’s resources to global customers.
