A Gatineau firefighter was rushed to hospital early Saturday morning, after the floor of a burning home collapsed beneath him.
The blaze broke out on rue Georges Walker in the Hull sector around 4 a.m. and destroyed the single family home.
His condition is not known.
Jacques Renaud was in the home when the fire was sparked.
“I was sleeping and all I heard was like a loud earthquake and usually I don’t get up when there are noises because I am a sound sleeper,” said Renaud. “Smoke was coming in my room and I opened the door and there was more smoke and I couldn’t see anything in the house.”
Renaud told 1310News the home belonged to his girlfriend.
“All the stuff that she had, the memories of her father and mother in the basement, they’re all gone,” he said.
His girlfriend was away when the fire broke out.
It’s not clear what caused the blaze.
