Mercury set to soar in the capital

OTTAWA – It’s time to dust off the barbeque, get out the golf clubs and the picnic baskets. It’s about to get much warmer in the capital!

1310News meteorologist Harold Hosein says a milder flow of air is coming up from the Gulf of Mexico and it is on track to move into Ottawa Friday.

“By Saturday we could be above the record temperature that was set in 2010,” he said. “By Sunday we could be as far back as 1966! And we could smash a record set in 1946 by the middle of next week.”

Earlier this month Ottawa set three new record high temperatures in a span of six days.

Calabogie Highlands Golf Resort is set to open their Saturday and head golf-pro Steve Hall told 1310News he’s expecting a busy opening weekend.

“Ground crews have been checking over the course and say the greens are in good shape,” he said. Hall does warn that you may find the course a bit soggy in a few spots.

Spring officially arrives at 1:14 a.m. Tuesday, March 20th.
