OTTAWA,On. – The Ottawa Senators were sitting in first place in the Northeast Division after Friday night’s game against the Montreal Canadiens, a place that many NHL insiders did not think they’d even come close to at the beginning of the season.
Members of the Sens Army told 1310News they’re surprised to see the standing Saturday morning.
“I thought they’d be about eighth,” said Dez. “They’d make the playoffs with the emergence of some of some of the younger players and a lot of good talent, so I thought they’d do fairly good this year.”
“Absolutely not I didn’t think we’d fare to well this year either,” said Mike. “I think they could stay up there with Boston because they’ve got a good team, they just got to pass the puck and get it in the net.”
“(I’m) really surprised, I never thought they’d get as far as they did this year,” said Garry. “I figured they’d be in last and be in a spot to get a high draft pick.”
In order to hold on to the top spot after Saturday’s schedule, either Philadelphia must beat Boston or Ottawa has to beat Toronto, of course for the Army, both would be better.
