Mountie to be fired after hit and run

NEW WESTMINSTER, B.C. – The Mounties plan to fire an officer convicted of obstruction of justice.

RCMP Assistant Commissioner Norm Lipinski says the force will conduct a code of conduct investigation on Corporal Monty Robinson and then, hopefully, terminate him.

A BC judge ruled Robinson tried to cover up his actions in the death of a young motorcyclist.

Robinson was driving his children home from a Halloween party when he struck and killed 21-year-old Orion Hutchinson in suburban Vancouver.

The court heard he rushed his kids home, then went to a bar for a couple of drinks.

He then returned to the accident scene and told the attending officer that he’d been drinking.

Judge Janice Dillon found no credibility in Robinson’s claim that traumatic incidents on the job had led he’d become an alcoholic as a result of traumatic incidents on the job.

Robinson also happened to be the Mountie in charge during the infamous confrontation at Vancouver airport that ended with the death of Polish immigrant Robert Dziekanski.
