Ottawa police roll out S.T.E.P. program targeting unsafe lane changes

Motorists who make unsafe lane changes or inappropriately use reserved lanes will be targeted by police in April.

It’s part of the city’s selective traffic enforcement program or S.T.E.P.

Unsafe lane changes caused more than 11 hundred collisions in 2010, resulting in one death.

There were more than two dozen crashes that same year with motorists incorrectly using transit lanes.
