Hydro crews restoring electricity in snow-covered Maritimes

HALIFAX – Utility crews were working to restore power in the Maritimes after the region was hit by a spring storm on Easter Sunday.

Early Monday, the NB Power website showed more than 650 customers were still without electricity, primarily in the Fredericton area.

Another 500 business and residents were without power in Halifax and Dartmouth and areas to the north, according to the Nova Scotia Power website

Ian Hubbard, an Environment Canada meteorologist, said more than 22 centimetres of snow hit Moncton, N.B. while Charlottetown received about 15 centimetres.<

He said Nova Scotia’s Colchester and Cumberland Counties saw 10 to 15 centimetres of snow, while Halifax and southern areas got five to 10 centimetres.<

Hubbard said with warm temperatures expected Monday, the snow was expected to quickly melt away.
