Fans begin playoff rituals

Resolving not to shave until their team is out, setting aside lucky jerseys, and planning their schedules around the games, diehard hockey fans are getting into their playoff rituals.

The first games in round 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs begin Wednesday night and on Thursday the Ottawa Senators face off against the Rangers in New York with puck drop at 7p.m.

“I just start watching them, that’s about it. I don’t follow the regular season, just the playoffs so once they kick off I watch, see who wins,” said James, adding if he could do more, he would. “I can’t grow a beard,” he said.

“I’ve got a lot of buddies that do it, they’re kind of crazy about it,” he said. “Jerseys at work, you know, religiously watching it, some of the guys try and grow the beard or they’ll grow a moustache, because the army can’t grow beards, so they’ll just grow playoff moustaches.”

“I just watch the game, that’s my only ritual,” said Lou, a big Sens fan.

“The only thing I do is I wear a Sens shirt on all game days, even when they’re away,” said Almete.

And as for the women? All of the women 1310News spoke with said they don’t follow the playoffs or hold rituals.

Some of the other rituals fans had heard of include wearing jerseys every day of the playoffs, never changing your socks and setting the P.V.R. so you catch every game.
