Alfie’s status unknown for Game 3

OTTAWA – The injury status of Captain Daniel Alfredsson is still unknown after he took a head shot from New York Rangers forward Carl Hagelin Saturday night.

Chris Neil’s overtime winner gave the Senators the 3-2 victory in Game 2, evening up the playoff series with New York at 1-1. But Alfredsson left the game in the second period with a head injury, and did not return.

Now everyone is wondering if the Captain will be ready to suit up for Game 3.

“He was feeling good [Sunday]. So we’ll see,” said MacLean after practice on Sunday. “He’ll be further evaluated and we’ll see what it’s like [Monday].”

The NHL suspended Rangers forward Carl Hagelin for three games for his hit on Alfredsson.

This is not the first time Alfredsson has been injured by a head shot from a Rangers forward. In early November, Alfredsson was hit by Rangers forward Wojtek Wolski, causing him to miss five games with a concussion.

Game 3 is Monday at 7:30 p.m.
