OTTAWA – Calling all storm watchers and chasers. Environment Canada is looking for about 55 more people to join a team of observers to help track and report storms.
Meteorologist Peter Kimbell said 45 people have already signed up, and more are needed.
With the resources and equipment available from Environment Canada, storm watchers will be needed to report real time activity on the ground in a personal way.
Those interested are asked to attend a free two and a half hour training session on Saturday Apr. 28 at the Nepean Sailing Club.
Applicants will be required to know certain weather related topics including:
- Difference between severe and non-severe thunder storms.
- Storm formation.
- Tornadoes and warning signs.
If selected, applicants will be put to the test and asked to call a toll free number and asked to report storms, focusing on areas outside major cities.
Write to ontarioregion@ec.gc.ca if interested.
