Sleep may affect your weight, study says

The less sleep you get the more weight you gain, according to a new study.

A study done by The University of Washington Medicine Sleep Center showed that

Individuals who slept longer had lower body mass index (BMI) than those sleeping less, researchers found.

The less sleep you get, the more your genes contribute to how much you weigh and the more you sleep, the less your genes determine how much you weigh, the study’s lead author and neurologist told USA Today.

More than 20 genes are involved in regulating energy use, fat storage, appetite and the body’s ability to process glucose.

Six-hundred-and-four pairs of identical twins and 484 sets of fraternal twins participated in the study.
