Orleans fire leaves five people homeless

A family of five is homeless, following a fire at their home in Orleans that caused almost half a million dollars in damage.

District Chief Dennis Dale tells 1310News just before 12:30 Thursday afternoon fire crews were called to 1606 Proulx Drive, near Charlamagne and 10th Line.

Thick black smoke was pouring from the house and fire crews activated a second alarm to deal with the fire.

The fire was contained to the kitchen, but heavy smoke damage throughout the home caused  $475,000 in damage.

No one was home at the time of the blaze, and the cause is not known.
