Man rescued from Ottawa River

OTTAWA-A 43-year-old man  is recovering from hypothermia and a minor chest injury after he fell into the Ottawa River Wednesday night and had to be pulled out by the Ottawa Fire Water Rescue Unit.

The man was travelling on a sail boat along the river near Britannia Bay just after 7 p.m. when he was struck by the boats boom and fell in the water.

The sailboat driver called 9-1-1 and the man was in the water for 20 minutes.

Ottawa Fire’s Marc Messier tells 1310News the sailboat circled the area and kept an eye on the man until rescue crews arrived.

The man was brought to hospital and is in stable condition.
