A busy Victoria day weekend for the OPP, who nailed hundreds of law-breaking drivers on provincial highways.
Constable Rheal Levac says it was part of a Canada Road Safety Week blitz which continued through the long weekend
“Here in Ottawa we laid 64 speeding charges, on top of that there were three tickets for stunt racing, 53 seatbelt (infractions), and 56 distracted driving (tickets.) One driver was charged with impaired driving,” Levac tells 1310News. “They’re approximate numbers of what we normally see during a long weekend. Average.”
Throughout the entire Eastern region, OPP officers handed out more than 2,000 speeding tickets, 286 seat belt infractions and 192 distracted driving charges.
