The City of Ottawa has struck out on its dream of attracting the Toronto Blue Jays AA affiliate for the 2013 season.
The Jays announced today they are renewing their affiliation with New Hampshire through the 2014 season.
The mayor and city councillor Bob Monette are still hoping another team will be in place for next summer.
Councillor Monette says the Jays were always the first choice, but while he is disappointed, he thinks the future of double-a ball in the capital is still bright.
“I think there are possibilities of other AA teams and if we get the right fit, I think we can market a AA franchise that will be quite successful”.
But both Monette and the mayor admit time is running out for 2013. The worst case scenario would be to have to wait another year. Either way, the mayor says the future of the stadium is not in doubt.
” The council spoke very clearly that they wanted to do our best to attract baseball ….and to maintain the facility as a publicly owned baseball facility”.
