18-year-old man dies from lightning strike

OTTAWA – An 18-year-old man, struck by lightning in Vincent Massey Park on Friday evening, has died.
Joel Gauthier and a female friend sought shelter under a tree in the park when Friday’s lightning and rain blew through the capital.
The tree they were under was hit by lightning, which sent the pair to hospital – Gauthier in critical condition.
He later died from his injuries.
Friday’s storm also blew off a part of the roof of an apartment building on Mayfield street in Vanier, leaving five units with water damage.
Three people were forced from their homes.
