Air Canada plane makes emergency landing at Pearson

TORONTO – An Tokyo-bound Air Canada jet was forced to return to Toronto after an engine shut down following takeoff this afternoon from Pearson International Airport.

An airline spokesman says none of the 318 passengers and 16 crew on board were hurt.

Peter Fitzpatrick says an emergency landing was requested and the Boeing 7-77 landed safely on one engine.

Some reports say debris fell from the plane before landing but Fitzpatrick could not confirm that.
