Max Keeping out of hospital

OTTAWA – He’s been a trusted and familiar face in news and for charitable events in Ottawa for decades, and on Thursday, he walked out of a hospital after undergoing cancer treatment.

Max Keeping, 70, spent the last 17 days at the Ottawa Hospital after undergoing a dramatic surgery for colorectal cancer.  Keeping tweeted Thursday that he will now be heading to a respite care for the next stage of recovery.

“Thanks for the support! 17 days of amazing care @OttawaHospital; next, respite care before home. #survivor THANKS.”

This is the second time the former news anchor was treated for cancer.  In 2003, Keeping underwent treatment for prostate cancer, and was diagnosed cancer free.

The surgery last month forced doctors to remove his bladder, anus, rectum and prostate.

His recovery is expected to be long and hard, but Keeping says he expects to “be back dancing on street corners in 2013.”
