It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

OTTAWA, ON – Old Man Winter’s visit to the capital may be putting you in the holiday spirit to put up Christmas lights outside your home.

Hydro One urges you to use strands that are for outdoor use to handle the cold weather and not to overload the circuit.

“A way you can see if this is happening is check if your house lights dim when your holiday lighting is turned on,” Spokesperson Tizina Baccega Rosa told 1310News.  She said the plug will also be hot after it is unplugged.

It is also important to remember to test your lights first, but unplug the strand while you are putting the lights up.

If you are still deciding on the type of lights, Baccega Rosa said LED lights last longer and us 80 percent less energy than incandescent.

“The outside of bulb is made out of plastic – so you do not need to be as careful as you were with incandescent.”
