Ottawa hit with another blast of winter

OTTAWA, ON – The capital got a fresh dusting of snow on Saturday afternoon – although it does not compare to the 30 to 40 centimetres from the last two snow storms.

The City of Ottawa crews was prepared and crews were out plowing and salting roads and sidewalks as soon as the snow started to fall around 10 a.m.

“We’ll have crews on call tonight,” said Kevin Wylie, Manager of Roads and Traffic Operations and Maintenance.  “Depending on how long the snow lasts, they will clean up and put more salt on the roads.”

Two to four centimetres of snow was expected for Saturday – however, with the snow falling throughout the day into the evening hours, it is expected to be more.

The snowy conditions also caused problems on Highway 401 as a major car pile up was reported westbound between Prescott and Brockville, which closed the highway.

There were also plenty of cancellations and delays at the Ottawa McDonald Cartier Airport. For a full list of delays click here
