Ottawa Sens brass sorry for lockout

OTTAWA-With a new NHL collective bargaining agreement (CBA) awaiting ratification, the Ottawa Senators called back all laid-off staff Monday and are set to add another 25 employees ahead of a shortened 48-game season.

But first, they are apologizing to fans for the work stoppage.

“We are sincerely sorry that we had to endure an extended work stoppage,” Ottawa Senators President Cyril Leeder told reporters. “We are going to do everything we can going forward that we can going forward to make it up to them (fans) and that starts with putting the best possible team on the ice right away.”

Leeder said the lockout caused the club to lose some season ticket holders, but he hopes to gain them and more back. He never mentioned any specifics, but said the team would be doing something to regain the fans confidence with the club.

Head Coach Paul MacLean also thanked fans for their patience.

“It’s been frustrating for all of us,” MacLean said. “Come and watch us play because we’re going to come and we’re going to play and we’re going to play for the fans.”

The schedule has yet to be released, but the Sens had 18 home games remaining on the old schedule. With the season expected to be 48 games they would only need to add six more dates at Scotiabank Place. If the league sticks close to the old schedule Ottawa may not play at home until January 25 or 29.
