Travel study reveals more people biking and busing

OTTAWA, Ont. – A $1-million study into Ottawa resident’s travel habits found more people are biking and busing, roughly the same number are travelling by car, while fewer people are walking.

Four governments paid for the study, the two provinces, as well as the cities of Ottawa and Gatineau.

The study found there was a 40 per cent increase in the number of bike trips, while transit use went up by nine per cent, from the last study in 2005.

Walking as a form of transportation fell by about ten per cent.

The car still reigns supreme as the most popular mode of travel in Ottawa, with 13 kilometres being the average distance per trip.
