Fire destroys Cheshire Cat Pub in Carp

OTTAWA, Ont. – A popular Carp pub has been destroyed by fire.

Firefighters were called to the Cheshire Cat Pub at 2193 Richardson Side Rd. early Monday morning. The fire was deemed under control around 12:45 p.m., Monday. No employees were inside the building when the fire started and no injuries have been reported. There is no word yet on a cause.

Damage from the fire has been estimated at $700,000.

Ottawa Police and paramedics were also called to the scene, as were Enbridge Gas, Hydro One, and OC Transpo for fire crews.

Richardson Side Road was closed from Carp Road to Huntmar Road for several hours at fire crews battled the blaze. The road has since re-opened.

Shock, sadness and condolences have been pouring into 1310News.
