Jenny McCarthy is out and Tommy Europe is in as the headliner for Bust a Move Ottawa.
This week’s announcement that McCarthy would headline the event prompted an explosion of outrage on social media. Tweeters used #DropJenny to express their displeasure with the choice of her for the event, because of what they call her anti-vaccination views.
Organizers don’t specifically name the social media campaign, but in a news release, Bust a Move Ottawa says, “since Tuesday’s announcement of the celebrity fitness instructor for the Bust a Move Ottawa, attention has shifted away from breast cancer awareness and fundraising.”
After the change was announced late Friday afternoon, McCarthy tweeted, “so so sorry Ottawa! I had to pull out of event because of my new show taping conflict but will be back in a few months to make up for it!”
Europe is a well-known fitness guru, and host of TV shows The Last 10 Pounds Bootcamp, Bulging Brides and Tommy Europe Fitness.
Europe will replace McCarthy as the celebrity fitness instructor for the March 2nd event at the Ottawa Athletic Club.
