Britannia murder suspect back in court next week

OTTAWA, Ont. – A man charged in Ottawa’s third murder of 2013 will be back in court Feb. 19 via video link.

Mark Hasslett, 24, made a brief court appearance Tuesday.

Hasslett has been charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing of Roland Laflamme, 54, in the Britannia area. He was originally charged with attempted murder, but that was upgraded after the victim died in hospital.

Roland Laflamme was rushed to hospital around 6 p.m. Monday with stab wounds in his abdomen following a scuffle near Carling Avenue and Pinecrest Road. He died in hospital Tuesday morning.

The fight broke out between the two men in an apartment building on Carling Avenue.

The Sun is reporting the suspect and the victim were roommates.
