Senators defenceman given a two-game suspension after open-ice hit

Ottawa Senators defenceman, Eric Gryba, was handed down a two-game suspension on Friday for his open-ice hit on the Canadiens’ Lars Eller in game one of their playoff series.

The hit during the second period on Thursday caused Eller to fall to the ice, leaving him unconscious and bloodied.

Fans on both sides had their own opinion but after a phonecall from Brendan Shanahan, the league’s disciplinarian, it was determined that he would sit out for two games.
