Less garbage being collected since switch to bi-weekly pickup

It seems like since switching to bi-weekly garbage pickup in the nation’s capital, we’re actually sending less trash to the landfill.

Numbers released Friday show that, compared to this quarter last year, 19 per cent less garbage was actually collected.

The stats also showed that we’re using the green bin more, with 29 per cent more organics collected.

Recycling increased by 6 per cent, meanwhile.

Overall, the total amount of trash diverted from the landfill increased by almost 10 per cent.

Coun. Maria McRae says these numbers are an encouraging start as the city continues to monitor the impact of bi-weekly garbage collection.
