Race weekend includes some first-timers

Ottawa Race Weekend attracts thousands of runners to the Capital including some first-timers and a few who are just getting into the sport.

Local runner, Jerrett Sani prepared as much as possible to take part in Sunday’s full marathon. His friend’s mother was his inspiration to keep pushing himself during long training runs.

“I’m running for my friend’s mom who was diagnosed with cancer,” he said.

Although he feels like he could have done more training, Sani was eager to lace up and hit the street. As long as he finishes the race, time isn’t really a concern for him.

Goodlife fitness trainer, Laura Dimic ran the half marathon and really pushed herself to beat her previous time when she took part in the Army Run last fall, which was 2:07. In order to get ready for Ottawa Race Weekend, she was timing herself doing 10km and 16km runs.

Dimic was inspired during last year’s Ottawa Race Weekend and signed up for her first marathon while still recovering from major surgery last May. There wasn’t a lot of preparation for that race, but she definitely trained for this one.
