Ottawa under heat advisory until Sunday

OTTAWA, Ont. – The nation’s capital will remain blanketed under a heat advisory until Sunday.
The alert, issued by Ottawa Public Health, goes into effect when the forecast calls for a humidex of 36 or more for two consecutive days.
1310News meteorologist Jill Taylor’s guaranteed high, Friday, was 31 degrees. By 4 p.m., the temperature in Ottawa was 31.9 degrees. The record high for May 31 was 32.8 degrees, set back in 1944.
“The set up in the atmosphere is allowing that warmer southwest wind to reach us, that muggier air, said 1310News meteorologist Jill Taylor. “We’ve got high pressure to the east of us and it’s pumping in that moist and muggy air mass.”
The combination of heat and humidity can impact your body, and be uncomfortable for young children, the elderly and those taking medication. Ottawa Public Health is reminding you to stay hydrated, avoid caffeine, and strenuous activity.
It’s also important to try and stay in the shade, and if possible, try and find an air conditioned oasis for a couple of hours to let your body cool off.
Things will cool off Sunday, when the humidity moves out of the region.
