OTTAWA – Real estate agents in the capital didn’t hear the phone ring as much in May, according to the numbers from the Ottawa Real Estate Board.
The Board reports a 4.6 per cent drop in sales for May, compared to the same period in 2012. Ansel Clarke is the past president of the Board and tells 1310News, the capital is falling in line with the rest of the country.
“Our numbers are starting to level off,” Clarke said.”The government policies are having some effect on that.”
Condo sales led the decline in sales, with a 9.9 per cent slide. That brought a 2.3 per cent dip in prices. Clarke points to the change in mortgage rules.
So far in 2013, real estate sales in Ottawa are down 7.5 per cent but at the same time overall prices are still up 2.1 per cent and Clarke feels there are still some deals out there.
The average price of a home in Ottawa for May 2013 was $370,501.
