OTTAWA-A scare for residents at a seniors home in west Ottawa Thursday evening after they had to be evacuated after a transformer fire sparked by a leaking generator.
Emergency crews were called to the Rideau Valley Vets Home at 1750 Russell Road around 6:30 p.m. after the fire was reported.
Staff at the home were able to move residents in the affected area to another building.
A diesel leak from the generator caused extensive smoke in the building.
The smoke was removed from the building but crews determined there was still an unusual odour and the hazmat team was called in to do an air quality assessment.
