Hazmat crews investigate suspicious package downtown; no hazardous materials found

OTTAWA – Hazmat crews were called in to investigate a suspicious package downtown on Friday afternoon.

Police say they got the call around 3 p.m. that an envelope containing a white powder was discovered at 66 Slater Street.

According to Ottawa Police, there was no hazardous materials in the envelope or the powder.

People inside the building were not asked to evacuate during the investigation, and the process only caused minor traffic and pedestrian tie-ups. .

The building on the corner of Slater and Elgin contains a Canadian Forces Recruitment Centre, other government offices, and a coffee shop.
