Ottawa Public Health issues heat advisory

OTTAWA – Public Health has issued a heat advisory for Ottawa for Monday and Tuesday.

The humidex both days is expected to be above 36 degrees, and a humidex advisory has also been issued for the Ottawa region by Environment Canada.

The sweltering heat and humidity is expected to stick around all week.

“This stretch is our first real prolonged period of heat and humidity,” said 1310News meteorologist Jill Taylor. “We may not get any relief until the Canada Day long weekend.”

This week’s forecasted highs are in the low 30’s, with the humidity expected to make it feel more like 40 degrees. That means precautions need to be made.

“It’s important to drink lots of fluids and remember to look after young children and older folk and pets,” said 1310News meteorologist Harold Hosein. “Do not leave pets in closed cars.”
