Dalton McGuinty back for second appearance at gas plant hearings

TORONTO – Former premier Dalton McGuinty will make a second appearance today at committee hearings into cancelled gas plants in Oakville and Mississauga.
After McGuinty’s initial testimony last month, Ontario’s privacy commissioner reported senior Liberals in the former premier’s office deleted emails in what she concluded was an attempt to hide facts about the gas plants.
McGuinty denied having a hand in the deletion of emails, but resigned his seat in the legislature before facing any questions on the privacy commissioner’s report.
Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak says he finds it hard to believe McGuinty didn’t know his chief of staff and top Liberals tried to wipe out their email accounts.
Hudak says he hopes McGuinty will be honest with taxpayers this time and say exactly what happened with the mass destruction of government records.
The New Democrats say the privacy commissioner’s report “cast a tremendous amount of doubt about the honesty of the former premier.”
