Humidex advisory lifted for Ottawa; heat advisory remains in effect

OTTAWA – Hot, sticky weather continues for the Ottawa region.
A humidex advisory has been lifted by Environment Canada, however, a heat advisory from Ottawa Public Health remains in effect.
“We’re no longer under the advisory, but, still very humid,” said 1310News meteorologist Jill Taylor. “I don’t want you to think that the humidity has disappeared. It’s just that we’re under that advisory threshold of 40 degrees.”
The humidex is expected to be around 38 degrees Tuesday, and the sweltering heat is expected to stick around through the week.
Jill said it’s important to stay cool and hydrated.
“Still avoid intense outdoor activity,” Jill said. “Drink plenty of water and seek some time in air conditioned buildings.”
Ottawa Public Health has also issued a reminder to take precautions during a heat advisory.
Anyone hoping for relief will have to wait.
“This stretch is our first real prolonged period of heat and humidity,” Jill said. “We may not get any relief until the Canada Day long weekend.”
