Canada Day in Ottawa

OTTAWA – It’s our nation’s 146th birthday!
Ottawa will be awash with red and white as people flood the streets for another jam-packed Canada Day in our country’s capital.
The noon show on Parliament Hill, hosted by opera singer Measha Bruggergosman and organ-donation champion Hélène Campbell, included a roster full of Canadian talent.
Pop star Carly Rae Jepsen was the headliner, alongside indie-rockers Metric, and Francophone pop rock singer Marie-Mai.
The noon line-up also included country singer Terri Clark, Quebec pop star Karim Ouellet and a performance from Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield.
All performers return for a second round of entertainment during the evening show at 7:30 p.m., except for Marie-Mai. The evening show will also include Sylvain Cossette, Radio Radio, Lucie Idlout and DJ Abeille.
The night finishes off with the annual Canada Day Fireworks over the Ottawa River, starting at approximately 10 p.m.
You can also take part in free activities offered at many of Ottawa’s museums and attractions.
Gatineau Park is celebrating its 75th year, and is hosting Canada Day activities at MacKenzie King Estate, with live music and games for the kids. The $8 access vehicle fee will be waived for Canada Day.
The Ottawa Jazz Festival at Confederation Park and Marion Dewar Plaza is free on Canada Day, featuring Leeroy Stagger and Chic Gamine.
The National Arts Centre also opens its doors to offer free concerts and activities for Canada Day.
The Canadian Museum of Civilization offers free admission from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and offers many special summer exhibitions.
The Canadian War Museum is free from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and will feature the special summer exhibition “Peace — The Exhibition.” The renewed LeBreton Gallery is also open, with up-close access to authentic military vehicles, artillery and other technology.
